Talknowledgy Marks 100th Episode!
Posted by Talknowledgy
Ottawa, September 29, 2012. Talknowledgy, Ottawa’s cutting edge technology and social media podcast, released its one hundredth episode this morning on Talknowledgy.ca.
Talknowledgy debuted on September 20, 2010 on the airwaves of CKDJ 107.9 in Ottawa. Since then, the show has been heard by thousands in Ottawa and around the world. The name Talknowledgy is derived from the words “talk”, “knowledge”, and “technology”. It is the name that has been used by the show during its time on CKDJ 107.9, on 580 CFRA, on 93.1 CKCU, and as an online podcast. It is currently hosted by Phil Gaudreau and David Hall of DavidHallSocialMedia.com.
“The show has gone through many changes in the past two years, all with the listener in mind,” says show co-founder Phil Gaudreau. “We have a lot of fun doing the show, and not only is that important from our perspective but I think you can hear it when you’re listening to the show.”
David Hall first joined the show in the summer of 2011 through the “Social Media Tip of the Week Segment”. “When I was first asked to be a weekly contributor to the show, I jumped at the chance,” says Dave“I thought that the show was unique and had great growth potential. More importantly, I could tell that the hosts really loved what they were doing and having a great time. Undoubtedly, that has played a big role in the show’s longevity.”
Talknowledgy typically features intelligence and insight from Phil Gaudreau and David Hall on topics like social media, smartphone technology, viral videos, content creation, and more. Episode 100 touches on the recent iPhone 5 “Scuffgate”, along with the MySpace relaunch, and the social media impact of the NFL replacement referees. Both Phil and Dave blog regularly on many of these topics.
“If you haven’t listened to us yet, episode 100 is a great time to start,” adds Phil. “If you’re still new to technology and social media, don’t worry. We speak in a way that’s friendly, relatable, and easy to understand, and we’re always willing to answer questions via Twitter or email. I want to thank all those who have been listening since the beginning, and I hope you’re looking forward to the next 100 as much as I am!”

Talknowledgy Episode #100: Scuffgate, mySpace, Phil gets an iPhone, and more!
Posted by Talknowledgy
Dave and I start the show in the world of smartphones – Scuffgate, plus some good news for Google, and some less bad news for RIM (still bad, just less bad).
In Seg 2, we discuss an internet dinosaur that’s trying to rebuild itself but hasn’t done enough to distance itself from its old brand. Is Myspace #CreepyOrAwesome?
Our “YouTube Hero” this week is courtesy of AwesomenessTV as they crush the hopes and dreams of Macheads everywhere.
Also don’t forget to check out our #Fail of the week – a really well done parody of Flo Rida’s “Whistle” which skewers the NFL and its replacement refs.

Talknowledgy Episode #98: iPhone 5, fake sex site profiles, caught with pot, & more
Posted by David Hall
The top story in this episode is the largest tech story of the week – The iPhone 5 announcement. We take a look at the new features, upgrades, and how it stacks up to the competition. On the legal side, Apple may not be able to sell their new device in the US for long due to alleged infringement on Samsung’s and HTC’s patents. The phone, by the way, is due out September 21.
We also chat about people being caught behaving badly online. Law enforcement officials are using photo sharing sites, like Instagram, to track down and persecute people who post images of themselves using drugs. And in the “Creepy or Awesome?!” segment we share our thoughts about an Ottawa restaurant owner plead guilty to creating a fake sex profile site to get back at one of her customers for writing a bad online review of her restaurant.
We discuss anonymous comments – are they better than using Facebook for your comment system?
Phil drops into the Social Media Breakfast Ottawa to chat with Collin Douma, Global Digital Planning Director at BBDO New York, about how the digital age is putting an end to demographics. (Phil may have incorrectly identified Collin’s title in the podcast, and he regrets the error).
Finally, our viral video this week is courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel Live as he claims to have the first iPhone 5:

What Would You Like to see on Future Editions of Talknowledgy?
Posted by Talknowledgy
Hi all,
Catherine, Dave and I will be meeting to plan out the future of the show soon. We’d love to hear your feedback prior to that meeting! Some things to consider:
1) Do you find the “Trending Tweets” and “Viral Video of the week” useful?
2) Is 40 minutes too long?
3) Do you enjoy the 1-on-1 interviews?
4) How do you feel about the chiptunes in our most recent podcasts?
5) In terms of content covered, what are some topics you’d like more coverage on? What do you not want to hear about less frequently or not at all going forward?
Comments are always appreciated!

Hi all,
Due to a very hectic schedule this week, I’ve decided to tightly focus this week’s show. It’ll be a one segment piece discussing the Social Capital Conference I’m attending today. You can follow the discussion using #SoCapOtt or just follow me, @PhilGaudreau. The segment will be posted tomorrow, Sunday, instead of today.
Thank you all for your continued support of the show. We’re back tomorrow!
